STATE & LOCAL BURN BANS IN EFFECT

NYS Burn ban information

From Tompkins County Administrator Lisa Holmes:

A State of Emergency is hereby declared in Tompkins County, effective 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

This State of Emergency has been declared due to the lack of significant rainfall, which has caused extremely dry conditions, this poses a public safety hazard due to the potential of out·
of-control fires and/or wildfires.
The following activity is prohibited in accordance with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Open Burning laws:
  • Burning refuse, trash and other solid waste
  • Burning loose leaves or leaf piles
  • Burning downed limbs and branches
  • Burning of grass, brush or forest-covered land.
As the Chief executive of Tompkins County, I, Lisa Holmes, County Administrator, exercise the authority give me under Article 2-B, Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law, to
preserve the public safety and herby render all required and avallable assistance vital to the security, well-being and health of the citizens of Tompkins County.
I hereby direct all departments and agencies of Tompkins County to take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property, public Infrastructure and provide such emergency
assistance deemed necessary.

This State of Emergency wlll remain In effect for thirty (30) days or until rescinded or renewed by a subsequent order.
