Open House 4-5pm. See the new Parking Lot!
June 18, 2025Town of Ulysses Completes Critical Reconstruction of Town Hall Parking Lot Using Federal Relief Funds – Open House June 18
The Town of Ulysses has successfully completed a full reconstruction of the aging and deteriorating back parking lot behind Town Hall, addressing safety and liability, accessibility, and infrastructure concerns. The public is invited to view the lot and learn more from 4-5pm on Wednesday, June 18 at the Town Hall at 10 Elm St., Trumansburg NY 14886.
The newly rebuilt lot features improved drainage and stormwater management, upgraded lighting, improved access for those with disabilities, and future-ready infrastructure for electric vehicle charging and security systems.
First recommended to the Town Board by Budget Officer Michelle E. Wright in 2021, the project was funded primarily through federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars and met federal deadlines to secure fund use by the end of 2024 to avoid the need for increased local property taxes while delivering long-term improvements to benefit town residents, visitors, and staff. Fiscal responsibility has been key, and while the Town Board originally received an excellent permeable pavement presentation from Andrew Hillman, the significantly higher cost ultimately led the Town to go with conventional pavement with enhanced storm water features.
Town Supervisor Katelin Olson states, "Making our Town Hall accessible and welcoming to all has been an important priority of mine, and the completion of the parking lot project reflects four years of planning. Using federal funds saved the average Ulysses taxpayer about $100 on their 2025 tax bill. Moving forward, I’m determined to find funding to install the push button equipment and further improve accessibility for everyone who uses Town Hall." Ulysses continues to maintain the lowest tax rate in Tompkins County and adheres to all legal, environmental, and public accountability standards in its infrastructure work.
